Super. Humans.

They sure are.

The recent 3 minute long advert for the Paralympics stopped me in my tracks.

Channel 4’s creative team, 4Creative, worked with the athletes and organisations to bring this work of art to our screens and highlight the everyday struggles that occur.

Not content with participating, training and achieving world records, the blood, sweat, tears and challenges presented makes it even more difficult when they try to attempt simple every day tasks.

One scene in the ad shows Paralympian rugby player Kylie Grimes trying to enter a cafe and manoeuvre her wheelchair up over the step of a cafe, she turns away and mutters “For fuck's sake”.

To be unable to get inside highlights those kinds of struggles in a simple way.

To be a Paralympian there’s got to be something wrong with you.

The word ‘wrong’ was used to highlight the historical use of how language can have a negative effect. In this sense its reference is made to be positive. Being that the only thing wrong with them is their ability and determination to achieve things most of us could only ever imagine.

The film was directed by Bradford Young, who is the first black cinematographer to be nominated for an Oscar and created by Scott Taylor and Andy Shrubsole. Behind the scenes images were snapped by Ian Treherne, a blind photographer.
